The Museum of Royal Jewellery, Alexandria
1.Geographical Placement and Background:
The Museum of Royal Jewels is a historical and artistic museum of the city of Alexandria, which is located in the Zizenia district of Egypt.
It is found in the last palace of Princess Fatima Al-Zahra, who belonged to the royal family of Egypt.
The primary significance lies in the exhibitions dedicated to the crowns and adornments of the queens and women of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty, the ruling dynasty of Egypt for almost 150 years from 1805 until the revolution of 195212
.
2.The Amazing Palace:
The edifice in question is a unique work of architecture that was built in the nineteenth century.
Before her death, Princess Fatma completed the western wing of the palace and then her daughter built additional eastern wing connected to the two by elegant corridor.
Until July 1952, when the ownership of the princess was terminated, the palace was used as the princess's summer residence. Despite these catastrophic events, she was able to stay there until 1964, the year in which she transferred the palace to the Egyptian authorities and relocated to Cairo.
On 23 July 1983, Princess Fatma Al-Zahra passed away.
3.Jewelry and Art Troves:
This place contains astonishing amount of jewelry belonging to the royal family and others.
Among the exhibitions are a diamond-encrusted necklace worn by the founder of the dynasty Mohamed Ali Pasha, a chessboard made of gold, and gold binoculars covered with diamond, sapphire and emerald beauties.
The museum also has some beautiful jewelry that was created by skilled European jewelry designers and wore by the queens and the princesses of the royal family.
Other than jewelry, the museum also has a collection of paintings, statues, and other decorative arts from the 19th century13.
